How to get Makeup and Hair of Beauty Queen Jodi Jahnke!

On May 27, 2012, Beauties of Asia Pageant was on for 2012!
I had the pleasure of being requested to do the makeup and hair for Jodi Jahnke, who turned out to be the winner of this year’s pageant!
Makeup
I kept her beautiful skin still luminating from within with kett airbrush hydro O3, and O5 in the olive tones
Then I used makeup forever’s aqua cream beige gold as a base to add highlight, then added on Urban Decay’s NAKED palette in gold and the dark gold.
Near the eyes, I lined it with Art Deco’s eyeliner and ontop I added yaby’s pearl paint a dark emerald green shade to have her brown eyes stand out, as well as compliment with the red empress chinese dress.
I also lined the bottom of the eye with this green.
Because this was going to be on stage, I added natural human hair lashes so that it would add the sparkle in her eyes.
Coated it with Kiss Me Black Mascara! Waterproof and smudge free
The blush I mixed a nude pink with a light coral colour for a very beautiful blush color. I needed her cheeks and glow to stand out even in bright lights on stage. I used Kett’s Angel + Love mixed together, focused on the apples of her cheeks.
The lipstick color I used Graftobian’s lipsticks, in Autumn Rust, Red, and Runway. (I know, I mix a lot so it’s not the greatest unless you want to pick up all the shades!)
Hair:
Large 1 1/2 Barrel curling iron
Sprayed with Tresemme’s curling hold spray
Sebastian Shaper Plus lightly sprayed on the curls to minimize frizz and hold shape.
I teased the top of the crown, and also added a beautiful multi-swirl shape in the back of the hair.
Forgot to take pictures of the back however!
But using bobby pins, with pin curl patterns I built ontop to have a multi-swirl shape.
Hope you enjoyed this mini-tutorial ![]()
OH! By the way, Jodi isn’t just a pretty face, she’s an amazing talented, down to earth gal!

If you’re a resident of Mississauga, you’re darn lucky!
I was up on a sunny beautiful day, reading and responding to my daily emails on my iPad in bed when suddenly a loud ringing occured.
It was so loud, it made my heart beat so fast because it’s the kind of alarms you hear when there’s an emergency…
I suddenly realize it’s the fire alarm in the building!!
I quickly grabbed a sweater, jacket and my keys and dashed out the door.
I ran down the stairs to ground floor to see what was going on.
Residents came out one by one to see what was the matter, and the maintenance seemed puzzled as they do not detect any signs of fire.
Moments later the fire department came, a whole team of them in around 10-15minutes.
I say that’s pretty darn fast, to just get around in Mississauga it would take that long! They had to be ready on stand by that entire time.
All I have to say is for what some people call ‘stressed’ out in their daily lives, I think these firefighters have it way rough when they make it their own personal mission to save everyone that needs help.
Imagine if you lived the life of a fire fighter everyday, what would you possibly have to go through?
I’m writing this because not only is there beauty in cosmetics, material adornment but inner beauty goes way deep. This is the one that counts. When you truly appreciate others to be there for you, you’re spreading beauty within you and around you as well. These fire fighters have such a passion to be there for you that I cannot help but to see that in them.
I truly appreciate them being there for us, and we should be grateful we even have this service in the cities. I know many cities around the world don’t even have this…
Thank you fire fighters, everywhere!
Your hard work, dedication, sweat, blood and tears are truly understood by a citizen today =o)
p.s. Don’t forget to look someone in the eye and say thank you for something you appreciated them doing for you today, and everyday. Even mention why you’re thankful! You’ll see the magic surround you.

Beautiful Asian Makeup on Bride Yen!

Yen was sweet enough to update me on a few of the photos that took place this February.
She is such a beautiful person and I tried my best to highlight these beautiful features of her on an Asian face (which can be hard to find for some!)
Yen and Ryan really touched my heart and I teared when I saw her walking down the stairs when Ryan was singing his heart out to her on one knee!
Ryan is actually a professional magician in Japan and they came back from Japan for their wedding. See him here! Magic of Orion

Can you believe this shocking news?
I don’t wish to say, but as a makeup artist that are with women constantly… I almost find it to be not surprising.
It breaks my heart to see it or hear it!
It is why I make it a personal goal to really turn that around to a positive result; with every woman I encounter and to reach as much people around the world with this blog.
Did you know your muscles will form to what you feel like?
For example, if you feel ugly or notice areas you don’t like about yourself or on your face, the muscles in your face and your face would actually ‘turn uglier’ because you feel that way.
If you would see beauty, feel beauty, you will be the beauty.
I hope this post has inspired you to think more positively or help another person feel more positive about themselves. Compliment something you genuinely feel that’s beautiful about them, tell them!

Treating bumpy, uneven skin – Keratosis Pilaris

Hi Olivia,
I like your suggestions regarding skin care on your facebook. After reading your skin care tips, I thought that since you are so knowledgeable you could guide me in the right direction for my skin problems. I have a dry skin and on my arms i have small spots all on the top section. My dermatologist told me that i have keratosis pilaris problem on my skin. Do you think in your opinion any chemical peel treatment can help reduce this? and if yes which one do you recommend.
I will really appreciate if you can reply me back.
Thank you,
A-
Hi A-!
I just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to read my tips, I wrote that to hope to help every woman out there facing those problems and I hope it has helped you.
When I was working in the spa, I have seen such forms of this. It’s not that common but it does occur. For the condition the doctor recommended to you, it can be helped with spa facial exfoliation treatments that help lessen the area affected. So there are treatments out there that help!
Each spa has different treatments that help the area, as you mentioned chemical peels such as AHA, BHA, special enzyme peels, glycolic, as well as a mechanical exfoliation such as microdermabrasion.
In order to recommend the perfect treatment for your skin I would have to see it in person under a magnifying glass to accurately pinpoint what’s best by seeing what skin type you are, as I do wish for the best for you! Because we cannot achieve that over the internet I want to help guide you like you wish to.
Keep these in mind when you book your treatment at a local spa:
- For chemical peels certain ones are derived from different sources, for example an enzyme can be from pumpkin and make sure you tell your therapist if you’re allergic to anything or if you’re taking any medication that might react with the chemical peel.
- There certain percentages for each chemical peel, 3% – 30%, if it is your first time, <>opt to go for a lesser % for a safer route and go back for regular treatments rather than a harsh treatment only once or twice!
- Because this condition is supposedly hereditary, you may have to go to the spa more than just a few times, there are at home treatments that you can also purchase so that you may save time and money on. Do only consider this once you find out what works for you from a professional.
- When you go into a local spa, make sure you fully communicate to them what you’re looking to treat and if they have a treatment that can help with it before you proceed!
If there are any individuals that would like to share how they treat this condition or offer any suggestions, please post in the comments below so that other people can benefit from your valuable experience! I thank you in advance

This video really keyed in to reasons why I am a makeup artist.
Especially when Sam Fine talked about showcasing the person is beautiful as is, without focusing on the makeup and just truly loving our job.
This is mainly for makeup artists and overcoming some obstacles!
Great watch for those interested.
Eve Pearl also gives a promo offer of if you spend over $50 you get a bronzing trio palette and if you spend over $100 you receive a priming moisturizer, the bronzing palette and a universal colored lipstick.

So lately I’ve been so busy!
Every weekend has been jam packed with weddings, clients, photo shoots and many wonderful things.
I’m so appreciative that I have many clients to service with my love for beauty on.
I remember when I first wondered what it would be like if I serviced brides as a makeup artist. I loved sharing tips and showing how women can be so beautiful if they could just see it!
I’m so happy I’ve been able to do that for the special brides I’ve had the pleasure of servicing so far this year. I enjoyed working on every single bride I’ve had this year, they were all just so wonderful.
Soon the busy wedding season will come to an end and I can’t wait for next year’s lucky brides!
I wish I have more time to do updates for you girls but if there’s a specific thing you would like to ask me, please email me at olivia.ha@gmail.com
I should go to bed now, have to wake up early yet again for another wedding!

I always receive meaningful messages from a friend Addy Saed, who is a Real Estate Sales Representative (http://www.heyaddy.com/) every Friday. This one really did mean a lot to me too, which is why I’m reposting this:
I usually have a motivational message for you every Friday but I recently received a story from Michael Krisa (www.thatinterviewguy.com) that touched me so deeply that I replied back to him to get his permission to share it to you. Permission was granted and I hope you get the same message out of the powerful story that I got!
The Cab Ride
I arrived at the address and honked the horn. After waiting a few minutes I walked to the door and knocked. ‘Just a minute’, answered a frail, elderly voice. I could hear something being
dragged across the floor. After a long pause, the door opened. A small woman in her 90′s stood before me. She was wearing a print dress and a pillbox hat with a veil pinned on it, like somebody out of a 1940′s movie.
By her side was a small nylon suitcase. The apartment looked as if no one had lived in it for years. All the furniture was covered with sheets. There were no clocks on the walls, no knickknacks or utensils on the counters. In the corner was a cardboard box filled with photos and glassware.
‘Would you carry my bag out to the car?’ she said. I took the suitcase to the cab, then returned to assist the woman. She took my arm and we walked slowly toward the curb. She kept thanking me for my kindness. ‘It’s nothing’, I told her… ‘I just try to treat my passengers the way I would want my mother to be treated.’
‘Oh, you’re such a good boy, she said. When we got in the cab, she gave me an address and then asked, ‘Could you drive through downtown?’
‘It’s not the shortest way,’ I answered quickly.
‘Oh, I don’t mind,’ she said. ‘I’m in no hurry. I’m on my way to a hospice. I looked in the rear-view mirror. Her eyes were glistening. ‘I don’t have any family left,’ she continued in a soft voice.. ‘The doctor says I don’t have very long.’ I quietly reached over and shut off the meter.
‘What route would you like me to take?’ I asked.
For the next two hours, we drove through the city. She showed me the building where she had once worked as an elevator operator. We drove through the neighborhood where she and her husband had lived when they were newlyweds. She had me pull up in front of a furniture warehouse that had once been a ballroom where she had gone dancing as a girl. Sometimes she’d ask me to slow in front of a particular building or corner and would sit staring into the darkness, saying nothing.
As the first hint of sun was creasing the horizon, she suddenly said, ‘I’m tired. Let’s go now’.
We drove in silence to the address she had given me. It was a low building, like a small convalescent home, with a driveway that passed under a portico. Two orderlies came out to the cab as soon as we pulled up. They were Solicitous and intent, watching her every move. They must have been expecting her. I opened the trunk and took the small suitcase to the door. The woman was already seated in a wheelchair.
‘How much do I owe you?’ She asked, reaching into her purse.
‘Nothing,’ I said
‘You have to make a living,’ she answered.
‘There are other passengers,’ I responded.
Almost without thinking, I bent and gave her a hug. She held onto me tightly.
‘You gave an old woman a little moment of joy,’ she said. ‘Thank you.’
I squeezed her hand, and then walked into the dim morning light.. Behind me, a door shut. It was the sound of the closing of a life..
I didn’t pick up any more passengers that shift. I drove aimlessly lost in thought. For the rest of that day, I could hardly talk. What if that woman had gotten an angry driver, or one who was impatient to end his shift? What if I had refused to take the run, or had honked once, then driven away? On a quick review, I don’t think that I have done anything more important in my life.
We’re conditioned to think that our lives revolve around great moments. But great moments often catch us unaware-beautifully wrapped in what others may consider a small one.
PEOPLE MAY NOT REMEMBER EXACTLY WHAT YOU DID, OR WHAT YOU SAID, BUT THEY WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER HOW YOU MADE THEM FEEL.
You won’t get any big surprise in 10 days if you send this to ten people. But, you might help make the world a little kinder and more compassionate by sending it on and reminding us that often it is the random acts of kindness that most benefit all of us.
This makes me think, how many people have I affected doing makeup? Have I stirred a story like this by changing the way someone views themselves?……
How have you affected your surroundings, the world?

Just recently I had the pleasure of working with Tereza Michelle and Eikona.
Tereza has such a great personality and an awesome sense of humor, I truly had a wonderful experience working with her. With a sweet and caring heart, Tereza spends her days caring and tending for the unfortunate as well. She’s has a fabulous au-naturel body too!
I spent most of the time warming up her skin, I bronzed up her body with Scott Barne’s Body Bling and matched her foundation to her body’s because it was tanned. Then to contrast and match the warm glow, I decided to use cooler colors on her eyes to match the blonde hair so that it wouldn’t stand out too harshly against a warm body.
Here are a few pictures that came out from the shoot, enjoy!

I’ve never seen so many happy faces all at once in celebration when Men’s Hockey won the Gold to top off everything in the 2010 Olympics on our Canadian soil.
This is something I dream for as an artist, something that fuels why I do what I do.. All I ask for is happiness from you
I was so happy it brought a tear to my face seeing everyone in Celebration. The young, the old, people that never smile on an occassion were even happy from the contagious smiles.
This, I wish will always continue to happen and will always strive for.
Life is truly beautiful and worth every second to live in if you open up your eyes to the beautiful moments.
